week 1 Hala's blog

Hi all,

Here I'm posting my first reflection at my first blog. I'm really excited about it and I can tell you that it wasn't that complicated to create following the user friendly manual. Creating a blog has empowered me with the sense of creativity and responsibility and as I was creating it, my students were my major point of interest; I can say that it's really easy to ask them to create their own blogs, post and comment. This is what we need to build on in our coming teaching; connecting learning/teaching English to technology and mainly the web which is by itself our students' main interest nowadays.

Looking forward to seeing your comments.

  1. Hi Hala,
I also shared the same experience of having my students in mind when I was creating my blog. I assume that this is one of the objectives of the course - to take the role of our students and see how using technology works.

  2. Hi there,
Quite positive reflection you are expressing in the post. Assigning students to write blogs could be quite interesting for both the teacher and the students. But I think for big classes, as a teacher moderating and assessing blog could be very occupying, no?

We might need to know whether there is certain number of students maximum in blogging-class scene that could give the maximum result.

  3. Wonderful, Hala!

You have taken the leap. I think there are many possibilities for using this technology in classes, and as Nada says, it is great to experience the student perspective that allows you to rethink class possibilities.

  4. Congrats, Hala!! I feel identified with you in the sense that although I participate regularly in some institutional blogs, it´s the first time I make my own. I'm thrilled too. In my case, as a coordinator, I have both my colleagues and their students in mind. About Rahmat's concern about big classes, one thing we have done is having part of the group work on a task online and the other part on a task off-line. Then they switch roles. Peer correction at the computer lab might work too. Our groups have a maximum of 20 students.

    Best,

    Margarita
